HURRICANE KATRINA

Please join me in helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

There are Many Things You Can Do To Help
:

1 – Keep the people affected, our government and our country in your prayers.

2 – Send a tax-deductible check or money order contribution to a trusted charitable agency or area hospital or clinic. To give through Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., make your check or money order payable to Delta Research and Educational Foundation, earmarked for “Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund”, and send to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Washington, DC 20033-0759.  Tulane University Community Health Center has been operating since shortly after the hurricane hit.  Send a check or money to: Tulane University Community Health Center at Covenant House, 1430 Tulane Avenue, SL-16, New Orleans, LA 70112.  You can also make a tax-deductible contribution with your credit card online through the American Red Cross at http://www.redcross.org/ or Mercy Corps at http://www.mercycorps.org.

3 – Write (or keep writing) to your elected officials in congress, the senate and the white house, and ask them to do more.  Let them know that you have not forgotten about the people hit by the America’s worst natural disaster and that you want them to respond the way you would want others to respond if it were you.  Ask them offer grants to send people and resources to help rebuild – particularly in the lower 9th ward.  Ask them to make sure the infrastructures of the effected areas are sound enough to withstand the next hurricanes that come.   Send your letters to President Barack Obama, Vice president Joseph Biden or Secretary of State Hilary Clinton to: The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20500, or your emails to: comments@whitehouse.gov, president@whitehouse.gov  or vice_president@whitehouse.gov.  Find contact information for your representatives in congress at http://www.house.gov/writerep/, and for your representatives in the senate at http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm.

4 – Volunteer to help rebuild housing.  Use vacation time or ask your employer to give you time off or to sponsor employees’ trips. Organize a group of family members, friends or coworkers and go as a team.

To volunteer through Habitat for Humanity, go to: http://www.habitat.org/cd/frame/frameset.aspx?url=www.habitat-nola.org.

To volunteer through The St. Bernard Project, go to: http://www.stbernardproject.org/

5 – Consider vacationing in New Orleans and patronize businesses in the worse hit areas.

6 – Spread the word. Write your local newspapers, magazines, and radio and television stations.  Let know this is still important and how you are involved.

7  Encourage your family and friends involved too.

Thank you so much,
Peace and Blessings,
